Our First Programme: Arun District

Silent Mayday and The Beach Company are pleased to announce a collaboration to deliver Ocean Therapy programmes for individuals referred with anxiety, PTSD, and other mental health challenges. The first programme will be run from The Beach Company Watersports Centre in Littlehampton, within the district of Arun, beginning in May/June 2026.

Looking ahead, we hope to build on these initial programmes to establish a more permanent presence in the Arun area. Our aim is to create inclusive, community-driven activities on the water that bring people together.

By connecting local businesses with individuals seeking inspiration and support within the same blue space, we believe a circular model can emerge—one that benefits both the community and those who need these experiences most.

The Ocean Therapy Programmes

The Beach Company, through it’s Watersports centre in Littlehampton, will run the Ocean Therapy programmes. Silent Mayday is providing the funding while engaging with referral bodies and raising awareness.

The actual programmes will be 2 hour sessions on the beach and in the water offering an inclusive and safe environment. Participants are instructed, depending on the weather condition, in a variety of watersports. The aim for those referred to the programme is to have ‘fun’ while trying something outside their comfort zone in a blue space.

The programmes will be led by ‘Mikey’ who runs the Watersports Centre.  ‘I have a passion for the water, being on it and teaching people to have fun on it. The Ocean Therapy Programme is a fantastic opportunity to allow more people, especially those that truly need it, to experience this. I’m looking forward to welcoming our first participants and building these programmes together with Silent Mayday’.

Referrals to the programmes will not be restricted by age and the first programmes will be focused towards the local community.

The Ocean activities will be open to all forms of engagement that harness the kinetic power of wind and waves. This includes windsurfing, kitesurfing, winging, paddleboard, surf and swimming.
